SUSTAINABILITY
Original and Sustainable Design: We choose natural materials, sustainable, and intelligent processes to be in harmony with our industrial activities and the environment
woods
We choose natural materials and woods from renewable sources, reforestation, and forest management. In 2019, the Herval Group achieved FSC - Forest Stewardship Council certification for certain products. The certification relates to the chain of custody of materials from forest origin.
foams
Many of our foams incorporate a certain percentage of polyols made from soybeans in their formulations, reducing dependence on fossil materials for their production. In addition to reducing petroleum consumption, the use of biopolyols reduces the carbon emission balance due to soybean plantation photosynthesis. Furthermore, we have foam manufacturing in a continuous machine, which is a process that requires minimal washing water and has very low isocyanate vapor emissions (due to operating in a completely closed dosing circuit). This process is characterized by maximum conversion of raw materials into end products, significantly reducing the generation of waste and other losses. Moreover, some of the inputs used in continuous production are reused in subsequent processes, such as paper, cleaning solvents, and small foam scraps.
bulk raw material
We prioritize the receipt of raw materials in bulk mode, thereby reducing the generation of packaging waste for disposal.
packaging
The way we take care of presenting our products goes beyond mere packaging; it is a manifestation of our commitment to quality, protection, and sustainability. Some of the packaging we use comes from the transformation of plastics that would be discarded into durable and high-performance raw materials for storage. In other words, the packaging process is an extension of the excellence that characterizes our brand. Through it, we ensure the integrity of the furniture and provide a memorable experience for our customers.
sustainable facilities
New facilities are being designed and implemented with resources that allow us to save natural resources, such as rainwater reuse, dimmable and intelligent LED lighting, natural lighting and ventilation, and thermal insulation for roofs and walls. We also have ongoing projects to improve production processes, such as replacing old motors with more up-to-date models that offer better energy efficiency, thereby reducing electricity consumption.
industrial waste treatment
All waste generated in the production process and other waste from customers or post-consumer products are properly treated, whenever possible reused, and when necessary, disposed of in accordance with current legislation. When it comes to wood waste, reuse is used for energy generation, replacing electricity in heating materials and industrial environments. In 2021, we joined ASLORE, an association formed by companies that have come together to develop actions aimed at complying with the National Solid Waste Policy. As a result, we invest monthly in actions focused on reverse logistics, meaning we seek to increase the amount of recycled waste, thus minimizing the environmental impacts that our packaging may generate
Water reuse
We partially reuse the effluents generated in our Sewage Treatment Plant, which strictly comply with the emission standards of current legislation. One of the company's guidelines is to increase the reuse of its effluents, reducing the need for the extraction of drinking water for its activities. Currently, we have a monthly reuse of approximately 100,000 liters of effluents, which, after treatment, are used for cleaning company vehicles and equipment, resulting in a reduction in the extraction of drinking water and reducing the amount of water to be discharged into the water body.
Fleet and logistics
Logistic processes are organized to maximize the efficiency of goods transportation, reducing the impact of emissions resulting from combustion in our vehicles, which are fully fueled with Diesel S10, thereby reducing the emission of sulfur compounds into the atmosphere, proven to be responsible for acid rain.
